The Association provides training seminars all around the State of Massachusetts on various water and wastewater topics. Most of these seminars are offered free or at a minimal cost to our members. If requested, the Association will arrange special training session just for your system. To register for any of these trainings please contact: Karen Morgan at 1-866-451-8099 Upcoming Trainings:
From Wire to Water
Designed by EPA, this course is aimed at documenting and improving the use of electrical energy at treatment facilities. The student is shown how to breakdown an electric bill into simple forms, then how to use that information to calculate simple payback and cost savings on equipment repairs versus equipment upgrades. Included are system evaluation checklists, standard operating procedures and standard maintenance procedures. A great course for water or wastewater operators, managers and administrative personnel that want to make their excellent operation even better! Fundamental Principles of Small Ground Water System Operations: This program was designed and written specifically for the small ground system with virtually no treatment except perhaps disinfection. Even the beginning larger water system operator will find this program useful and skill enhancing. Through the use of super computer graphics and slides, visual demonstrations, hands-on, plus a lively interactive verbal presentation, attendees will find this program entertaining and informative. We’ll cover the basics, from well design, common water treatment techniques, distribution, disinfection, residuals measurements, even general regulatory rule compliance like the Coliform, Ground Water, Lead/Copper, Nitrates, are reviewed. How to handle and report violation issues are reviewed as well.Leicester Water Supply District, 124 Pine St. Leicester, MA 01524

21st Century Principles of Water/Wastewater Hypochlorite Disinfection and De-chlorination:This program looks at the most common mistakes water/wastewater systems make using Hypochlorite and liquid based De-chlorinating agents. But it does much more….let’s compare and contrast on-site generation, high strength versus low strength hypochlorite. We’ll look at various Sulfite de-chlorination, Vitamin C, Hydrogen Peroxide, and other de-chlorinating methodologies. Learn why it’s so important to measure delivered Hypochlorite/De-chlorinating agent strength and rates of deterioration. Become expert at measuring hypo and dechlorination agents via hydrometers, refractometers, weight measurements and simple chemical tests. Learn how valuable simple pump dose calculations can be too minimize and maximize residuals. And why it’s so important to verify all pump settings via routine calibrations. We’ll also explore handling, safety, and some little-known precautions to take when storing, and using liquid based chlorination and de-chlorination compounds Dalton Fire District, 20 Flansburg Avenue, Dalton MA 01226

This workshop is an introduction to the testing techniques and systems available for water quality measurements in applications including drinking water, wastewater, en-vironmental water, and industrial water. Testing techniques covered in the course in-clude colorimetric chlorine analysis, pH measurement, and turbidity. Along with proper measurement techniques, calibration, verification, and troubleshooting strategies for each parameter will be addressed and good laboratory practices will be emphasized. Participants will improve their lab skills and gain hands-on experience with chlorine, pH, and turbidity testing using portable field and laboratory instruments.Scope: municipal drinking water training, municipal wastewater operator training, in-dustrial laboratory training, chlorine analysis, turbidity analysis, pH analysis Veolia Brockton Water Dept. Exam Application Information:
The Division of Professional Licensure is now working with ABC and AMP to deliver new testing procedures. The exam procedure will now involve the use of computerized exams offered throughout the year at many designated locations in each region. These procedures are developed to make the exams more convenient for potential operators and to reduce the cost for the exams. PCS has been notified to no longer accept drinking water exam applications.
Note: If you have passed the November 2007 exam you have six months to apply for certification with PCS. After 6 months you must re-exam. Exam Application Process:
Applied Measurement Professionals (AMP) will schedule candidates for examination; the exams will be administered at AMP locations; and candidates will receive their exam score and diagnostic report following completion of exam. In order to apply to take exams please go to www.goamp.com and follow the link for Massachusetts Board of Certification of Operators of Drinking Water Supply Facilities. You may also schedule an exam by phone by calling AMP at 1-800-345-6559.
Applications for licensure will be given to candidates who pass the exam at the exam site. Fees:
** Each examinee will pay $97.00 every time they take the exam, even those who do not pass and choose to retake the exam. |
